DeLiver

DeLiver aims to better understand the changes within the liver that lead to cancer and and find ways to detect liver cancer at the earliest stages when curative therapies may be applied.

Professor Francis Ashcroft

Fran's research focuses on ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels and their role in insulin secretion. She works on how blood glucose stimulates insulin release from the pancreatic beta-cells, what goes wrong in type 2 diabetes, and how drugs exert their beneficial effects.

Dr. Chiara Bardella

Chiara Bardella's research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of tumour onset and progression, with a particular interest in gliomas.

Professor Ellie Barnes

Ellie's work on Hepatitis C straddles basic science and clinical/translation studies and has made her a leading authority in the UK. She studies of HCV vaccines, created a major registry for IgG4 disease and she currently heads the CRUK DeLiver programme.

Professor Sarah Blagden

Sarah's research focussez on investigating post-transcriptional mechanisms that drive cancer behaviour and researching novel cancer therapeutics for patients with advanced malignancies.

Professor Tim Claridge

Tim's research interests focus on application and development of solution-state NMR techniques to address questions of structure, function, dynamics and interactions of molecules in organic chemistry and chemical biology.

Professor Ben Davis

Ben's research group focusses on the chemical understanding and exploitation of biomolecular function (Synthetic Biology, Chemical Biology and Chemical Medicine), with an emphasis on carbohydrates and proteins.

Dr Alex Dickens

Alex's research works in the areas of Analytical chemistry, metabolomics, lipidomics, bioinformatics and systems medicine.

Dr. Kourosh Ebrahimi

Kourosh's research uses molecular and cellular biology, spectroscopic techniques and high-resolution mass spectrometry for discovery and chemoenzymatic synthesis of natural-product based antiviral and antimicrobial lead molecules.

Professor Kevin Foster

Kevin's research focuses on the social interactions that affect and define biological systems. His primary focus is the microbes which commonly live in dense and diverse communities and includes the mammalian microbiome.

Professor Adrian Harris

Adrian Harris has been the Cancer Research UK Professor of Medical Oncology in the Department of Oncology at University of Oxford since 1988 and is also a Professorial Fellow of St Hugh's College, University of Oxford.

Dr Elisabeth Haythorne

Lizzie's research focuses on molecualr mechanisms in primarily type 2 diabetes (T2D). Her reserch has shown that a decline in beta cell function is due to a failure of the beta cell to completely break down – or metabolise – glucose.

Professor Robert Hedges

Robert's research involves archaeological studies of ancient human and animal diets and the environments uncovered at archaeological sites and the development of radiocarbon dating. He was awarded the Royal Society's Royal Medal in 2008.

Professor Tom Higham

Professor Higham's research interests focus on archaeological dating, including the radiocarbon dating of bone and the chronology of Palaeolithic Europe.

Dr Richard Hopkinson

Richard's research focusses on understanding formaldehyde biochemistry and biology. He has also previously worked on mechanistic studies of the human histone demethylases.

Professor William James

William's research focusses on macrophage biology in health and disease and developsl methods for dissecting both physiological and pathological pathways in both infectious and non-infectious disease.

Jethro Johnson

Jethro's research uses multi-omic and computational approaches to identify the molecular basis of host-gut microbiome interactions and understand their impact on health and disease.

Professor Akane Kawamura

Research in the Kawamura group centres on applying chemical biology approaches to understanding and modulating biological processes of interest.

Professor Hector Keun

Hector's research programme centres on the application of small molecule profiling (metabolomics & small RNA sequencing) to problems in oncology and toxicology.

Professor Nick Kruger

Nick is interested in understanding how the pathways of carbohydrate synthesis and degradation are regulated to meet the requirements of the plant in response to changing environmental and developmental demands.

Professor Petros Ligoxygakis

Petros studies the interaction of the insect immune system with the microbial world.

Professor Thomas Milne

The Milne lab aims to better understand how chromatin proteins contribute to gene regulation in normal haematopoietic cells and in disease, and in particular how these proteins influence gene expression through differential enhancer activity.

Professor Pavel Matousek

Pavel’s current research areas include non-invasive disease diagnosis, security screening, forensics, cultural heritage and pharmaceutical analysis.

Professor Paul Newton

Paul's research aims to improve our understanding of the epidemiology and impact of substandard and falsified (SF) medical products, the evaluation of devices for detecting SF medicines and vaccines in supply chains.

Dr Hafiza Noreen

Noreen's research focuses on Phytochemistry, Identification of novel compounds from plant extracts by Mass Spectrometry, Tissue culture and cytotoxic screening.

Professor Neil Oldham

Neil's research focuses on the application of mass spectrometry in solving biological problems. Of particular interest is the study of non-covalent protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions by electrospray-mass spectrometry, ion mobility spectroscopy, cross linking, and hydrogen-deuterium exchange.

Dr Matthew Paul

Paul's research vision is to further define and modify the sucrose homeostatic regulatory system for large improvements in global crops and environments through genetics and chemistry.

Dame Professor Fiona Powrie

Dame Fiona Powrie is Director of the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology and a Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford. Her research interests include characterisation of the interaction between the intestinal microbiota and the host immune system.

Dr Fay Probert

Fay's research focuses on using a multidisciplinary combination of analytical chemistry, mathematics, and biology techniques to understand the chemistry of small molecule pathways associated with disease.

Professor Chris Schofield

Research in the Schofield group is driven by a desire to apply chemical principles and techniques to address important biological questions.

Professfor Amy Styring

Amy's research focusses on carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis of human and animal bones and charred plant remains recovered from archaeological sites and use the carbon and nitrogen isotope values of individual amino acids to improve predictions of human and animal diet.

Professor Pawel Swietach

Research in Pawel's lab is driven by an interest in how biological processes are affected by chemical acidity with particaurl focus on the the heart and cancer.

Professor Jenny Taylor

Jenny's research currently involves projects in heart disease, leukaemia, cancer, brain malformations and neurodegenerative conditions.

Professor Jennifer Tripp

Jenn has studied how climate changes during the end of the last glacial period and how this affected human migration and cultural development. Her research interests include green chemisry and archaeological chemistry.

Professor Holm Uhlig

Holm's research investigates functional mechanisms of intestinal inflammation: antimicrobial activity in phagocytes, regulatory T cells, and epithelial barrier defects.

Dr Wen-Wu Li

Wen-Wu's research team works in the areas of drug discovery and development, as well as bioengineering of peptides and antibodies for biomedical application in cancer and infectious diseases.

Professor Nicole Zitzmann

Nicole's research focusing in particular on interfering with the morphogenesis of viruses and host cell proteins needed for the formation of infectious viruses. She also works on less-invasive diagnostic tests.
